1800 Tequila Cocktail Recipes
Travel Distilled publishes some 1800 Tequila Cocktail Recipes for Cinco de Mayo, including a classic Margarita.
No, that isn’t 1,800 tequila cocktail recipes but some Cinco de Mayo recipes using 1800 Tequila. 1800 Tequila gets its name because that was the year tequila is acknowledged as being first successfully aged in oak barrels. The first licensed tequila maker was a certain gentleman named Jose Antonio Cuervo, way back in 1758, and 1800 Tequila is a sister company of Jose Cuervo. They share the same long and distinguished pedigree of making 100% agave tequila in Jalisco, Mexico. In fact 1800 Tequila was originally known as Cuervo 1800 Tequila.
1800 Tequila Bottle
The distinctive 1800 Tequila bottle shape is a reminder of another Mexican icon, the Mayan stone pyramids, some of which I’ve been lucky enough to see on my own travels in Mexico. The bottles also all bear the 1800 Tequila motto of “Trabajo, Passion, Honestidad” (“Work, Passion, Honesty”).
Here are 1800 Tequila’s suggested cocktail recipes to help celebrate Cinco de Mayo. The first is that old standby, and one of my own favorite cocktails, the Margarita. It’s normally made using Cointreau or Triple Sec, but this recipe is a reminder that you can substitute regular orange juice if you’re out of either of those. (Personally I’m never out of any of the ingredients for a good Margarita, especially the tequila!)

1800 Tequila Core Range
1800 Tequila’s current main range of tequilas is the following:
1800 Silver
Made from 100% Weber blue agave – aged for 8 – 12 years and harvested at their peak. The liquid is double distilled, and a special selection of white tequilas is blended together for added complexity and character. The result is a premium tequila with a smoother, more interesting flavor than most on the market. The clean, balanced taste with hints of sweet fruit and pepper is perfect sipped neat, on the rocks, as a shot or in a cocktail. Available on ReserveBar and at Master of Malt.
1800 Coconut
Our signature double-distilled 1800 Silver tequila infused with natural, ripe coconut flavor. With its slightly-sweet and medium-bodied tropical taste, this versatile spirit is delicious on the rocks and also tastes great in cocktails. Available on ReserveBar and at Master of Malt.
1800 Reposado
This tequila is crafted using 8 – 12-year old 100% Weber blue agave and is matured in American and French Oak barrels for no less than six months. This rich liquid has notes of buttery caramel, mild spices and a touch of smokiness, which is imparted by the finishing process. Perfect mixed in a cocktail or on the rocks. Available on ReserveBar and at Master of Malt.
1800 Anejo
Using 100% Weber blue agave, picked at their peak – anywhere from 8 -12 years old – Anejo is aged in French Oak barrels for a minimum of 14 months. Its finish is described as spicy and well-rounded with flavors of toasted oak, vanilla and butterscotch. This deep, luxurious tequila is ideal for sipping. Available on ReserveBar and at Master of Malt.
Instant Margaritas
If you don’t feel like hauling out the ingredients to make your own Margarita, 1800 Tequila also has a range of ready-to-drink Margaritas in a bottle. I’ve been dubious about ready-made cocktails, but I was pleasantly surprised when I first tried a Jose Cuervo Orange Pineapple Margarita, so now I say: Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!
