Jamie Foxx’s Bourbon
Jamie Foxx’s Bourbon: Award-winning actor and musician Jamie Foxx is the new owner of Brown Sugar Bourbon, whose two bourbons include a potent BSB 103 which is 103 proof.
Jamie Foxx is nothing if not multi-talented. He’s won Oscars, BAFTAs Golden Globe Awards, and many other awards for his acting. He’s also won Grammys for his music, producing four albums that have all been in the Billboard Top Ten charts, with one of them, Unpredictable, topping the charts.
As if that wasn’t enough to keep him busy, he’s now bought his own bourbon company, Brown Sugar Bourbon. This is what he had to say about it:
I’ve always lived by the rule that life is short, and you need to go out and do what you want to do. Owning a brand that brings sweet life to the party has always been a goal and with BSB we’re making it happen. Before the quarantine I watched bottles of BSB disappear at all my celebrations and knew this was a brand I wanted to bring into the spotlight. Anyone who tries BSB is going to love it just like I do.
Brown Sugar Bourbon
Brown Sugar Bourbon was founded in Washington state in 2016, and since then has twice won its own equivalent of an Oscar in the World’s Best Flavoured Whisky Awards.
Jamie Foxx’s Bourbons
Brown Sugar Bourbon has two expressions, their core Brown Sugar Bourbon, which is 30% ABV (60 proof) and the later BSB 103 release. The name of that refers to the proof of the bourbon, 103 proof, or 51.5% ABV. That’s pretty potent stuff. I’ve already reviewed the original Brown Sugar Bourbon when it first came out, so what’s its bolder big brother like?
Making BSB 103
BSB 103 is made to the same recipe as the original Brown Sugar Bourbon. It’s made up of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley, and aged in charred new American Oak barrels. The bourbon is then blended with brown sugar and cinnamon. The BSB 103 simply isn’t diluted as much as the original, but bottled at closer to cask strength.
Reviewing Jamie Foxx’s Bourbon BSB 103
The spirit is a rich and deep brown color, and on the nose is very similar to the original. There’s nothing subtle about this. You get hefty doses of brown sugar and cinnamon, though there are hints of cooked apple and caramel too. It’s a bit of sugar and spice and all things nice. And there is definitely alcohol!
Tasting BSB 103 produces the same flavors as the aromas, though you need a sweet tooth… and a liking for strong drinks. My wife found it too sweet so I was forced to drink hers too, which was no hardship whatsoever. Normally I sample all spirits neat, but because of the strength of this one I had it on the rocks, and the flavor evolved and softened as the ice melted. This is one dangerously more-ish bourbon. I can see why Jamie Foxx fell for it and started serving it at his parties. Personally, I’ll be keeping it for myself!
