Johnnie Walker Hot Toddy Recipe
Johnnie Walker Hot Toddy
Created by Scottish Mixologist Aidan Bowie
I'm not a huge fan of hot toddies but sometimes when I've been traveling in Scotland or Ireland and have been offered one on a cold and damp night, it's hit the spot. Everyone will have their own recipe for a hot toddy, and this one from Johnnie Walker is typical. The drink combines whisky, lemon juice, honey, and hot water.
Some people use sugar instead of honey, and in Canada they use maple syrup. It's also common to add spices of some kind, such as a cinnamon stick, like this Johnnie Walker Hot Toddy recipe for the USA's National Hot Toddy Day on January 11th - a good excuse to try this recipe.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Johnnie Walker Black Label
- 0.5 oz Lemon Juice
- 0.5 oz Honey
- 3 oz Hot Water
Instructions
Glassware: Mug
Garnish: Cinnamon Sticks & Star Anise
Preparation: Combine all the ingredients in a mug. Stir lightly to mix.
Notes
You now know how to make a hot toddy but what is a toddy anyway, hot or otherwise? Well, toddy is a word used in India originally to describe an alcoholic drink made from fermented palm sap. It later came to refer to alcoholic drinks more generally, and finally this particular drink. You can also have a cold toddy which is roughly similar but uses oranges, lemons, and a few other ingredients, and lots of ice to make it cold.
