Kinkky Vodka Review
Travel Distilled reviews Kinkky Vodka’s Red Grape Vodka, a flavoured vodka at 35% ABV (70 proof).
Let’s get my prejudices out of the way. I don’t like contrived names for companies, nor ones that are deliberately misspelled, so Kinkky Vodka is not a name that’s going to appeal to me. However, the important thing is what’s inside the bottle, not what’s on the outside, so I’m always prepared to put prejudices aside.
The company was formed in 2020 and based in Bedford in England, and produces triple-distilled fruity vodkas that are distilled and bottled in the UK. They use only natural flavourings to make vodkas which are low in sugar and bottled at 35% ABV (70 proof).
Kinkky Vodka Flavours
So far Kinkky Vodka comes in three flavours as well as their Untouched standard vodka: Red Grape, Mandarin Madness, and Lively Lemon and Key Lime.
Tasting Kinkky Vodkas
I was sent a full bottle of the Red Grape Vodka, and miniatures of the others. The Untouched Vodka I thought was perfectly pleasant, a little rough, a mixing rather than a sipping vodka, but not something I would spend £30 on (the current price) when you can buy names like Absolut, Ketel One, or Russian Standard much more cheaply.
The Mandarin Madness and the Lively Lemon and Key Lime flavours I tried both neat and with tonic. These were better, and the flavours (even though it’s flavourings, not natural fruit) tasted fruity and zesty, both on their own and with a tonic mixer.
Kinkky Vodka Red Grape Flavour
Unfortunately, the Red Grape flavour was the least successful for me. It tasted not of grapes but more like a can of fizzy cherry drink that had had some vodka poured into it. It tasted artificial, and even mixed with tonic or cola (I thought the cherry taste might go) it was a disappointment. It was certainly drinkable, but all the time with the feeling that I was drinking a canned soft drink that was bad for me, unlike the pleasing freshness of the mandarin and the lemon-lime versions.
The makers recommend lemonade or Sprite as the best mixers, and recommend sticking the vodka into the freezer for a while before serving, to enhance the flavour. I’d say that was good for the mandarin and lemon-lime, not so good for the red grape. It might be just my taste preferences, though, so you should still try them for yourself.
