Martin Miller’s Gin Limited Edition Gift Box

For Christmas 2020, Martin Miller’s Gin has once again partnered with award-winning Iranian night sky photographer Babak Tafreshi to produce a distinctive Northern Lights-inspired, limited-edition gift box.

Martin Miller's Gin Bottle Limited Edition Gift Box Northern Lights

Martin Miller’s Gin is bottled in Iceland using Icelandic water, blended with the distillate that is produced in England and shipped to Iceland. That’s why the company took Babak Tafreshi to Iceland, to photograph the Northern Lights, not knowing they would get the most impressive display in over a decade.

The result is a stunning limited edition gift box of Martin Miller’s Gin, the box containing the bottle having an amazing wrap-around photograph of the aurora borealis over Iceland. The photo is so dreamy and fantastical that it looks like it has to be a painting, but when you gaze more closely at it you see that it really is a photograph. Quite how many the photographer must have taken in order to capture this mesmerising image, and how many hours he must have spent waiting for the very unpredictable Northern Lights to appear, I shudder to think.

Kirkjufell Mountain

Tafreshi didn’t choose just any old location, either. He went for one of the most impressive of Icelandic landscapes, featuring the Kirkjufell mountain and waterfalls on Iceland’s dramatic and rugged western coastline. This is the same coast where the Martin Miller’s bottling plant is located, 100 kms (62 miles) southeast of Kirkjufell in Borgames. You can read my account of visiting Iceland and Borgames here.

Babak Tafreshi

Babak Tafreshi is an acclaimed photographer, science journalist and amateur astronomer who has made it his specialty to photograph the night skies. He has worked for National Geographic, among many other prestigious places, and he also founded an international program called the World at Night, encouraging photographers worldwide to photograph the night skies, in particular over the world’s greatest landmarks. Of course when the Northern Lights appear, the night skies look remarkably different.

About his photo, Tafreshi said: “I am delighted to have partnered with Martin Miller’s Gin to create this gift box, which celebrates the home of its pure spring water. The image we used captures the most colourful aurora I have ever seen, which coloured the Icelandic landscape in these stunning pastel hues, making this box truly unique.”

The limited-edition box will be available in the UK in select Waitrose, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s stores from October to December 2020, with a recommended retail price of £27 for a 70cl bottle. In the USA you can buy select Martin Miller’s gins on Drizly.
